ABSTRACT

Objective@#To explore the effectiveness of spinal guidance exercise on adolescents of mild idiopathic scoliosis, so as to provide an experimental reference and method for promoting adolescents spinal health.@*Methods@#From the scoliosis screening, 96 children who met the diagnostic criteria were selected in June 2021, and were divided into the experimental group and the control group, with 48 cases in each group. The experimental group received a 12 week Longji Daoyin exercise training, and the control group received health education, observation and monitoring. Before and after the experiment, the axial trunk rotation (ATR) and scoliosis Cobb angle of the two groups were tested respectively, and the subjective sensation of the patients was measured by Scoliosis Research Society-22(SRS-22) questionnaire.@*Results@#After 12 weeks, the ATR and Cobb angles of the experimental group decreased [( 5.02± 2.85,7.59±3.94)°],compared to (7.08±2.84)° and (15.84±2.00)° before intervention( t =14.02, 17.09, P < 0.01 ). Scores of functional activity, self image and mental health in the SRS-22 score increased from (4.65±0.14)(3.49±0.21) and (3.99±0.17) to(4.77±0.14)(4.62±0.13)(4.42±0.13)( t =-4.86,-39.12,-13.92, P <0.01 ). The ATR and Cobb angles of the control group increased from (6.94±2.15)° and (15.82±1.76)° to (8.25±2.49)° and (18.63±3.12)°( t =7.44,8.99, P <0.01), and the scores of self image and mental health in the SRS-22 score decreased from (3.49±0.19) and (4.00±0.15) to (3.44±0.18) and (3.94±0.14)( t =-3.74,-4.39, P <0.05).@*Conclusion@#Early adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is easy to aggravate during the observation period. Longji Daoyin exercise is of preventive and therapeutic significance.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the phenolic composition, antioxidant properties, and hepatoprotective mechanisms of polyphenols from green tea extract (GTP) in carbon tetrachloride (CCl)-induced acute liver injury mouse model.@*METHODS@#High-performance liquid chromatography was used to analyze the chemical composition of the extract. Antioxidant activity of GTP was assessed by O, OH, DPPH, and ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay in vitro. Sixty Kunming mice were divided into 6 groups including control, model, low-, medium-, and high-doses GTP (200, 400, 800 mg/kg) and vitamin E (250 mg/kg) groups, 10 in each group. GTP and vitamin E were administered at a level of abovementioned doses twice per day for 7 days prior to exposure to a single injection of CCl. Hepatoprotective effects of GTP were evaluated in a CCl-induced mouse model of acute liver injury, using commercial enzyme linked immunosorbent assay kits, histopathological observation, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTPNick-end labeling (TUNEL) assay and Western blot.@*RESULTS@#GTP contained 98.56 µg gallic acid equivalents per milligram extract total polyphenols, including epicatechingallate, epigallocatechin gallate, epicatechin, and epigallocatechin. Compared with the model group, low-, medium-, or high doses GTP significantly decreased serum levels of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate transaminase (P<0.01). Histopathological observation confirmed that pretreatment of GTP prevented swelling and necrosis in CCl-exposed hepatocytes. Hepatoprotective effects of low-, medium-, and high-dose GTP were associated with eliminating free radicals and improving superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase activity in the liver. Additionally, low-, medium-, and high-dose GTP decreased cell apoptosis in the CCl-exposed liver (P<0.01). Phosphorylated nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), p53, Bcl-2 associated x protein/B-cell lymphoma/leukemia-2 gene, cytochrome C, and cleaved caspase-3 levels were downregulated compared with the model group (P<0.01).@*CONCLUSION@#GTP achieves hepatoprotective effects by improving hepatic antioxidant status and preventing cell apoptosis through caspase-3-dependent signaling pathways.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the epidemiology of iron-deficiency anemia among children aged 0-6 years in plateau area, and to provide a basis for the formulation of prevention and treatment measures for anemia.@*Methods@#A total of 1 512 children aged 0-6 years were randomly selected from 4 counties in plateau area by stratified and cluster sampling. Blood hemoglobin level was tested. Child dietary behaviors were collected from their parents.@*Results@#There were significant differences in the prevalence of children with different age, family location, education level of main dependants, occupation of main dependants and per capita income of family(χ2=12.83,39.48,27.05,44.26,32.45, P<0.05).No significant difference for anemia prevalence in gender and nationality was found. The prevalence of anemia among children aged 0-6 years was 67.0%, and the prevalence was highest among children aged 1 years while decreased with age.Univariate analysis of variance showed that the prevalence anemia was 74.0% in rural children, which was significantly higher than children in urban area 58.6%(χ2=39.48,P<0.05). Low education and income level of caregiver, husbandry in the family, no exclusive breastfeeding under 6 months, and picky eaters positively associated with high prevalence of anemia. The prevalence rate of anemia in 0-6 months old infants fed with mixed feeding and artificial feeding (73.1%, 75.0%) was higher than that of breast feeding (48.9%) (χ2=6.78, P<0.05). Picky eating can lead to a high incidence of anemia in children.@*Conclusion@#Promoting healthy diets and correcting unhealthy dietary pattern through nutrition education to parents might be effective ways to lower the prevalence of anemia among children in plateau areas.

ABSTRACT

@# Objective: To investigate the effect of tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) on the anti-tumor function of chidamide and to explore the mechanism. Methods: Mouse macrophage cell linesAna1 and Raw264.7 were cultured in vitro and induced into TAM with tumor supernatant. HDAC enzyme activity was detected after TAM treated with chidamide. The mRNA expressions of cytokines, such as IL-6, IL-12,TNF and IL-1β, in TAM were detected by qPCR. The protein expression of NF-κB and STAT3 in TAM treated with chidamide were detected by Wb. The mixture of TAM and colon cancer CT26 cells was inoculated into nude mice to construct the subcutaneous xenograft model; and the efficacy of chidamide (3.87 mg/kg) on the growth of CT26 xenograft tumors was observed. The protein expressions of PCNA, F4/80, Arg1 and iNos were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results: Chidamide inhibited the proliferation of CT26 cells. In the in vivo experiment, the inhibition rate of chidamide alone on CT26 xenograft was about 18.7%; however, the inhibition rate was up to 57.2% with the presence of TAM. Chidamide could inhibit the activity of HDAC enzyme in TAM, and further increase the Histone acetylation level. Chidamide could affect the expression of nuclear transcription factor NF-κB, inhibit the expressions of Arg1, IL-6 and IL-12, but up-regulate the expressions of iNOS, TNF and IL-1β in TAM. Conclusion: Chidamide can enhance its inhibitory effect on colon cancer CT26 cells via regulating the expression of cytokines and inhibiting the activity of HDAC in TAM.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective    To compare the safety and efficacy of simple mitral valve replacement with the third intercostal incision on the right side and the conventional midsternum incision. Methods    From February 2017 to February 2019, heart surgery in the Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical College completed the first simple mitral valve replacement (MVR) operation in 103 patients, of whom 39 patients were received minimally invasive right third intercostal small incision (a minimally invasive surgery group). There were 10 males, 29 females at average age of 59.51 years. There were 64 patients with MVR via the middle section of the common sternum (a conventional surgery group), 22 males and 42 females, with an average age of 60.22 years. Types of lesions: 65 patients were with mitral stenosis, 22 patients with incomplete closure, 16 patients with incomplete closure. Results    There was no significant difference in preoperative clinical data between the two groups (P>0.05). The entire group of patients successfully completed the operation. Surgical replacement of mitral valve mechanical valve in 74 patients and biological valve in 29 patients. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the extracardiopulmonary cycle time, aortic blockade time and total hospitalization time. In the early stage of operation, 3 patients were examined for secondary hemostasis, 1 patient was minimally invasive surgery, and the remaining 2 patients were with routine surgery. The infection of incision occurred in 3 patients, all of them were in the routine operation group. All three patients died early after operation in the routine operation group: two were postoperative low cardiac volumetric syndrome leading to multiple organ failure, and the other was sternum infection accompanied by artificial valve endocarditis. Conclusion    There is no significant difference between MVR through the third rib of the right chest and traditional MVR in the safety. However, it has the advantages of small trauma, beauty, low incidence of incision infection and reduced postoperative pain.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective    To compare the effect of aspirin+ticagrelor and aspirin+clopidogrel on graft patency one year after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Methods    A total of 67 patients who received CABG in our department from January 2014 to September 2017 were included in this study (52 males and 15 females). They were randomly divided into a group A (aspirin+clopidogrel) and a group B (aspirin+ticagrelor). There were 34 participants in the group A (28 males and 6 females) and 33 patients in the group B (24 males and 9 females). All patients were invited for clinical follow-up and 64-slice multislice computed tomography angiography (MSCTA) analysis in 1 year postoperatively. Cardiovascular events, bleeding events and other adverse events were followed up. Results    Four patients were lost to follow-up. Two patients died. A total of 61 patients (48 males and 13 females) completed coronary CTA, and 31 in the group A (25 males and 6 females) and 30 in the group B (23 males and 7 females). The total number of bridged vessels was 156 (59 internal thoracic artery bridges and 97 great saphenous vein bridges), including 79 in the group A (31 internal thoracic artery bridges and 48 great saphenous vein bridges) and 77 in the group B (28 internal thoracic artery bridges and 49 great saphenous vein bridges). Graft patency rate 1 year post CABG was 82.3% (65/79) in the group A and 92.2%(71/77) in the group B (P>0.05). Artery graft patency rate 1 year post CABG was 96.8% (30/31) in the group A and 96.4%(27/28) in the group B (P>0.05). Saphenous vein graft patency rate 1 year post CABG was 72.9% (35/48) in the group A  and 89.8% (44/49) in the group B (P<0.05). Multivariable analysis with binary logistic regression showed ticagrelor use reduced graft occlusion (OR=0.282, 95%CI 0.093 to 0.862, P<0.05). There was no significant difference in adverse events between the two groups. Conclusion    Compared with clopidogrel plus aspirin, ticagrelor added to aspirin after CABG may enhance the saphenous graft patency without the excess risk of bleeding 1 year post CABG.

ABSTRACT

Objective To propose a method for high-energy photon 3D decoding of PET detector to decode reactive crystal position and calculate γ ray depth in the scintillating crystal. Methods Light transmitting windows were set between the crystal arrays, visible photon groups were guided to distribute in the photoelectric sensor array during a single event, and sensor signal intensity was regulated to realize position and depth decoding of the high-energy photon.Monte Carlo method was used to compare the designs of different light transmitting windows to determine the effects of the crystal surface treatment mode on the results. Experiments were executed for further verification. Results The experimental results had consistency with simulation ones;the signal received through the reaction crystal was always stronger than that through the adjacent, which could decode the reaction crystals; the relations between the depth of interaction (DOI) and energy differences of the photo sensors were monotonic with the changes of DOI,and thus could be used to calculate the DOI;when using single window, the DOI vs.Diff.Energy curves had two segments which were not desired for DOI measurement;crystals with rough surfaces were more desired since the qualities of their DOI vs.Diff.Energy curves were better;the dual window method had the best DOI vs.Diff.Energy curves in term of linearity. Conclusion The method can realize 3D decoding of the discrete crystal array, which improves the energy resolution of the PET system. ABSTRACT

<p><b>Objective</b>To evaluate the quality of the donor semen in Chongqing Human Sperm Bank and the influence of age on semen parameters.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>We collected semen samples from 899 donors in Chongqing Human Sperm Bank and divided them into five groups according to the age of the semen donors: 22-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40, and >40 years old. Using the Makler Counting Chamber, we measured the semen volume, percentage of progressively motile sperm (PMS), total motile sperm, sperm concentration, total sperm count per ejaculate, and percentage of morphologically normal sperm (MNS). Then, we compared the semen parameters obtained with the fifth percentile and median reference values published in the WHO Laboratory Manual for the Examination and Processing of Human Semen-5th Ed (WHO 5th Ed) and among different age groups using the Kruskall-Wallis H test.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The semen volume (1.8 ml), sperm concentration (25.0 × 10⁶/ml), total sperm count (100.7 × 106/ejaculate) and MNS (4.3%) in the semen samples of the 899 donors were obviously higher than the fifth percentile values published in the WHO 5th Ed, and so were the first three parameters (4.0 ml, 88.0 × 10⁶/ml, and 333.7 × 106/ejaculate) than the WHO median reference values. PMS (31.0%) and total motile (38.0%) were lower than the WHO fifth percentile values and so was MNS (11.6%) than the WHO median reference value. PMS (55.0%) and total motile sperm (61.0%), however, were coincident with the median reference values of WHO 5th Ed. Statistically significant differences were observed among the 22-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40 and >40 years old groups in perm concentration (88.0 [1.0-270.0] vs 96.0 [5.0-335.0] vs 100.0 [3.0-200.0] vs 105 [15.0-225.0] vs 90.0 [22.0-159.0] × 10⁶/ml, P < 0.05), but not in the semen volume, PMS, total sperm motility, total sperm count or MNS (P > 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The donor semen in Chongqing Human Sperm Bank is generally of high quality. Sperm concentration significantly increases with age but decreases in men aged >40 years.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>Objective</b>To investigate bacterial infection and the distribution of different bacterial species in the donor semen and the influence of different bacterial counts on semen quality.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Bacterial colonies in the semen samples from 1 126 donors were counted with the Synbiosis Protocol 3 Automatic Colony Counter and the bacterial species with a colony count ≥10⁴ cfu/ml identified with the VITEK2 Compact Automatic Biochemical Analyzer. The Makler Sperm Counting Board was used to examine the semen quality of the semen samples with a colony count = 0 cfu/ml (n = 22, group A), those with a colony count <10⁴ cfu/ml (n = 22, group B) and those with a colony count ≥10⁴ cfu/ml (n = 22, group C). Univariate analysis was employed for comparison of semen quality among different groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Among the 1 126 donor semen samples cultured, 5 (0.44%) showed mixed bacterial contamination and 993 (88.58%) showed none but with growth of a certain species of bacteria, 2.22% (22/993) with a colony count ≥10⁴ cfu/ml, mainly including Streptococcus bovis, tiny bacilli, Staphylococcus epidermis, and Staphylococcus aureus, among which gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria accounted for 95.45% (21/22) and 4.54% (1/22), respectively. Compared with group A, groups B and C manifested significantly reduced total sperm count ([567.5 ± 327.6] vs [421.9 ± 155.9] and [389.9 ± 110.6] × 106 per ejaculate, P <0.05) and percentage of progressively motile sperm ([65.0 ± 6.5] vs [61.0 ± 3.5] and [61.6 ± 4.3] %, P <0.05). There were no statistically significant differences among the three groups in the semen liquefaction time, semen pH value, total sperm motility or percentage of morphologically normal sperm (P > 0.05). Of the 284 randomly selected semen samples, 34 (11.97%) were found positive for Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU) and no significant difference was observed in the semen quality between the UU-positive and UU-negative samples (P> 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The bacteria-positive rate is high in the donor semen and the bacterial species are varied, mainly including gram-positive bacteria. Semen quality is reduced with the increased number of bacterial colonies.</p>

ABSTRACT

Summary Objective: Dermal papilla cells (DPCs) are located in the hair follicles and play an important role in hair growth. These cells have the ability to induce hair follicle formation when they display aggregative behavior. DPCs derived from the androgenetic alopecia (AGA) area undergo premature senescence in vitro, associated with p16INK4a expression. The aim of the current study was to investigate the expression of p16INK4a in aggregative and non-aggregative DPCs and the effect of p16INK4a down-regulation in these cells by adenovirus-mediated RNA interference (RNAi). Method: DPCs were isolated and cultured from healthy human scalp. p16INK4a gene and protein were detected in aggregative and non-aggregative cells. Expression of p16INK4a in DPCs was silenced by infection with rAd5-CDKN1A-1p2shRNA. Cell fate was monitored after infection. The growth of cells was measured by MTT assay. Cell cycle was evaluated by flow cytometry (FCM). Results: DPCs were isolated by digestion and showed aggregative behavior for six passages. The expression of p16INK4a showed a clear upward trend in non-aggregative cells when compared with aggregative group. p16INK4a expression was silenced by rAd5-CDKN1A-1p2shRNA (p<0.05). The p16INK4a-silenced cells grew more rapidly and exhibited a trend towards aggregative growth. There was an increase in the proportion of cells in G1 phase, while those in S phase were reduced after p16INK4a gene silencing (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our results suggest that p16INK4a plays an important role in the premature senescence and aggregative behavior of DPCs. These observations can lead to novel therapeutic strategies for treatment of AGA.

ABSTRACT

Fluorescence intraoperative cholangiography (IOC) is a potential alternative for identifying anatomical variation and preventing iatrogenic bile duct injuries by using the near-infrared probe indocyanine green (ICG).However, the dynamic process and mechanism of fluorescenceIOC have not been elucidated in previous publications.Herein, the optical properties of the complex of ICG and bile, dynamic fluorescence cholangiography and iatrogenic bile duct injuries were investigated. The emission spectrum of ICG in bile peaked at 844 nm and ICG had higher tissue penetration.Extrahepatic bile ducts could fluoresce 2 min after intravenous injection, and the fluorescence intensity reached a peak at 8 min.Inaddition, biliary dynamics were observed owing to ICG excretion from the bile ducts into the duodenum.Quantitative analysis indicated that ICG-guided fluorescence IOC possessed a high signal to noise ratio compared to the surrounding peripheral tissue and the portal vein.Fluorescence IOC was based on rapid uptake of circulating ICG in plasma by hepatic cells, excretion of ICG into the bile and then its interaction with protein molecules in the bile. Moreover, fluorescence IOC was sensitive to detect bile duct ligation and acute bile duct perforation using ICG in rat models. All of the results indicated that fluorescence IOC using ICG is a valid alternative for the cholangiography of extrahepatic bile ducts and has potential for measurement of biliary dynamics.

Objective To observe the effect of elbow support on muscle activity and subjective feelings of comfort during typing. Methods Ten college students voluntarily participated in this experiment. They typed the same text using elbow supports of five different heights. The distance between their elbows and the desk was supported at 3 cm below,0 cm,and-3 cm and-6 cm above the desk. There was also an unsupported condition.Myoelectric readings were recorded from the right splenius, trapezius, biceps, extensor carpi radialis, flexor digitorum superficialis, flexor carpi radialis, and extensor digitorum muscles.Perceptions of comfort of the neck, shoulder, hand and forearm, and hand using the different supports were surveyed using a questionnaire. Results One way ANOVA shows that the height of the elbow significantly affects the activity of the trapezius, the extensor carpi radialis and the extensor digitorum muscles.Trapezius muscle activity was higher with 3 cm high elbow support than without support, and the value was smaller when using-6 cm elbow support. The activity of the carpi radialis longus extensor was least when using-6 cm and-3 cm elbow support, and greatest with 3 cm support.Extensor digitorum activity was least when using-3 cm high elbow support and again greatest with 3 cm support. The different elbow support heights had no significant relationship with comfort perceptions for any body part. Conclusion The height of elbow support can change the average myoelectric signals from muscles during typing, but there is no significant difference in the typist's perception of comfort. This could be due to a change of typing position and neuromuscular motion control mode in response to the height of elbow support.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To learn the prevalence of birth defects in Chongqing.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A total of 6579 children aged 0 - 4 were chosen by multistage cluster sampling method in central economic districts of Chongqing. A total of 32 kinds of birth defects were selected. All the birth defects, except for the visible congenital malformation, must be diagnosed by the hospital in county. And municipal experts would make a consultation for those that couldn't be diagnosed at the level of county. Investigators trained strictly made a body examination and inquired medical history from May to September in 2010.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>A total of 6541 subjects, aged from 0 to 4, were recruited in the present study, and 216 of them were born with birth defects. The total prevalence was 33.48‰ (95%CI: 29.09‰-37.87‰). There were 25 kinds of birth defects in total, the first five were hernia (20.15‰), congenital heart disease (2.17‰), polydactylism (2.02‰), cryptorchid (1.86‰) and funnel chest (1.86‰). The prevalence among boys was 52.99‰ (178/3359), higher than girls 12.29‰ (38/3092) (χ2=82.42, P<0.05). The prevalence in each group aged 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 were 39.30‰ (36/916), 38.79‰ (41/1057), 36.46‰ (56/1536), 28.38‰ (47/1656), 27.99‰ (36/1286), respectively. There were no statistical differences in each group (χ2=4.83, P=0.31). The prevalence in countryside was 40.17‰ (136/3386), higher than that in town 26.18‰ (80/3065) (χ2=9.83, P<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The rate of birth defects in Chongqing was moderate, and boys and kids in rural areas had a higher prevalence rate than their counterparts.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the short-term spontaneous fluctuation of viral load in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and explore the related factors in treatment naive CHB patients during immune clearance phase.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A total of 123 treatment naive HBeAg-positive CHB patients with ALT>2 × ULN were enrolled in this study. Paired serum samples were obtained at the first and second visits with an interval of less than 4 weeks. The levels of quantitative HBV DNA (Roche COBAS), quantitative HBsAg, ALT and AST were analyzed. Liver biopsy specimen were collected within 4 weeks and evaluated using Knodell and Ishak histological scoring system.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Of the 123 patients, 93 (75.6%) and 30 (24.4%) had HBV DNA fluctuation ≤ 0.5 Log IU/ml and >0.5 Log IU/ml, respectively. Binary logistic multivariate regression analysis identified Knodell necroinflammation score and HBV DNA level as the factors related to HBV DNA fluctuation. Patients with Knodell necorinflammation score ≥ 10 or HBV DNA<7 Log IU/ml had significantly higher rates of HBV DNA fluctuation>0.5 Log IU/ml (50.0% vs 18.3%, P=0.042; 42.9% vs 20.6%, P=0.030).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Treatment naive CHB patients in immune clearance phase show short-term spontaneous fluctuation of HBV DNA, and nearly 25% of the patients have HBV DNA fluctuation >0.5 Log IU/ml. Such fluctuation is related to liver inflammation and quantity of HBV DNA.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the effects of 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCE) on the behavior and the brain neurotransmitter levels in mice.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Thirty mice were randomly divided into four groups, which were control group and groups of low, middle and high exposure (225, 450 and 900 mg/m3) to 1,2-DCE for 10 days (3.5 h a day) by inhalation. After the last exposure, the open field test was performed immediately. After exposure all mice were killed and the brain tissues were taken up rapidly. The levels of aspartate (Asp), glutamate (Glu) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain were detected by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Levels of Asp and Glu in all exposure groups increased with doses. As compared to the control group, levels of Glu in all exposure groups increased significantly (P < 0.05). Levels of GABA in the low exposure group were significantly lower than those in control group, but those in the high exposure group were significantly higher than those in control group. The results of the open field test showed that effect of low exposure to 1,2-DCE on the behavior was stimulant, but the high exposure to 1,2-DCE inhibited behavior of exploration, excitement and sport.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Subacute exposure to 1,2-DCE could result in the change of amino acid neurotransmitter content and ratio in the brain, thereby change the behavior of mice appeared, which might be the mechanism of neurotoxicity caused by 1,2-DCE in part.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate effect of Sanhuangyinchi decoction (SHYCD) on liver damage and the pro-apoptotic factor caspase-3 in rats with acute hepatic failure.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>SD rats were randomly divided into blank control group, model group, Angongniuhuang group (AGNH) and SHYCD group. Acute hepatic failure was induced in the rats by intraperitoneal injections of D-GaLN and LPS, and the death rate, ALT, TBIL, PT and caspase-3 activity was observed or tested.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>At 36 h after the injections, the death rate of the rats was 74.29% (26/35) in the model group, 31.43% (11/35) in AGNH group and 28.57%(10/35) in SHYCD group. The death rate, ALT, TBIL, PT and caspase-3 activity in AGNH and SHYCD groups were significantly lower than those in the model group (P<0.01). SHYCD showed stronger effect than AGNH in depressing TBIL and the activity of caspase-3 (P<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>SHYCD can improve the liver function and inhibit the activity of caspase-3 in rats, which can be the possible mechanism for its therapeutic effect against acute hepatic failure.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>Comparing with two dimensional (2D) imaging, both in diagnosis and treatment, three dimensional (3D) imaging has many advantages in clinical medicine. 3D reconstruction makes the target easier to identify and reveals the volume and shape of the organ much better than 2D imaging. A 3D digitized visible model of the liver was built to provide anatomical structure for planing of hepatic operation and for realizing accurate simulation of the liver on the computer.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Transverse sections of abdomen were chosen from the Chinese Visible Human dataset. And Amira software was selected to segment and reconstruct the structures of the liver. The liver was reconstructed in three-dimensions with both surface and volume rendering reconstruction.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Accurately segmented images of the main structures of the liver were completed. The reconstructed structures can be displayed singly, in small groups or as a whole and can be continuously rotated in 3D space at different velocities.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The reconstructed liver is realistic, which demonstrates the natural shape and exact position of liver structures. It provides an accurate model for the automated segmentation algorithmic study and a digitized anatomical mode of viewing the liver.</p>
